Korea Life Insurance Association targets 17 AI projects by 2027

The rollout includes legal review, contract review, and data verification.

The Korea Life Insurance Association has launched three artificial intelligence (AI) systems for complaint management, advertisement review, and internal regulation searches, with plans to develop a total of 17 AI projects by 2027.

The association launched the Complaint Management AI, Ad Review AI, and Internal Regulation AI this month, it said on 7 September.

The Complaint Management AI converts customer consultation content into text in real time, classifies complaint types, and provides counsellors with response materials and related information.

The Ad Review AI conducts initial screening of advertisements based on the association’s review regulations and standards. Designated staff retain responsibility for final decisions.

The Internal Regulation AI searches the association’s 136 internal regulations and presents relevant clauses and supporting legal grounds.

The association plans to develop an AI system to assist with generating questions for the insurance agent registration qualification exam this year.

It also plans to expand its AI projects into legal review, disclosure data verification, article clipping, contract review, translation of overseas materials, and statistical verification.

“AI must go beyond being a tool that simply assists internal work—it should become a means of providing better services to consumers and member companies,” said Kim Cheol-joo, Chairman of the Korea Life Insurance Association.

An insurance industry official said the insurance industry has a high proportion of repetitive review work, including checks of products, terms and conditions, and regulations.

“If security and accuracy can be ensured, there is considerable room for productivity improvement through AI adoption,” the official said.
