Drivers in Australia and New Zealand have logged more than 132 million kilometres with the feature.
Zurich Australian Insurance Limited (Zurich) has started using Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) (Supervised) technology as a rating factor for motor insurance, becoming the first insurer in Australia to recognise the feature when pricing cover.
The move applies to eligible Tesla customers under Zurich’s InsureMyTesla offering and comes as use of FSD (Supervised) grows in Australia and New Zealand.
Tesla data shows vehicles using FSD (Supervised) have seven times fewer major or minor collisions than regular electric vehicles.
The technology uses eight external cameras to provide a 360-degree view around the vehicle and processes more than one million pixels of visual data every millisecond.
Zurich said the updated InsureMyTesla product uses local and international Tesla data to price cover for eligible vehicles equipped with FSD (Supervised). Existing benefits, including glass and charging equipment repair, remain available.
The insurer said no other Australian provider currently uses FSD (Supervised) as a risk rating factor, making Zurich the first in the country and the second insurer globally to do so.
FSD (Supervised) launched in Australia and New Zealand in October 2025. Tesla customers logged one million kilometres using the feature within its first two weeks.
Since then, Tesla customers in the region have self-driven more than 132 million kilometres using the technology, with average daily use increasing more than five-fold from the launch period.
Alex Morgan, head of General Insurance at Zurich Australian Insurance Limited, said the insurer was using Tesla’s data alongside its underwriting technology and motor insurance expertise to reflect the lower risk associated with supervised self-driving.
Thom Drew, Country Director, Australia & New Zealand at Tesla, said the company welcomed the insurance industry’s recognition of the technology’s safety benefits.
