This week in insurance: Climate cover uptake low, Parametric market expands, Insurers name new leaders

bolttech also named its new APAC chief.

The insurance industry from 14 to 18 September saw growing interest in climate and parametric insurance, alongside several senior leadership appointments across major insurers and insurtech firms.

Only 16% of respondents in Singapore have purchased insurance products designed to protect against climate-related risks, although a further 40% intend to do so in the next 12 months.

The findings from a study by Singlife and the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) show a gap between awareness and action on climate resilience, with personal ownership identified as a stronger driver of sustainable behaviour than awareness or knowledge.

Meanwhile, Asia-Pacific is projected to record the fastest-growing parametric insurance market with 14.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2035.

The global parametric insurance market is set to expand significantly over the next decade, with its overall value projected to grow from $17.60b in 2025 to $46.08b by 2035.

According to SNS Insider, the sector is expected to expand at a CAGR of 10.1% between 2026 and 2035.

In corporate news, bolttech has announced executive leadership appointments across its Asia-Pacific and North America divisions to support its next stage of expansion.

Emma Butler has been appointed CEO for the APAC region and joins the bolttech Group Executive Committee immediately.

Swiss Re also announced the appointment of Iris Cheung as head of Life & Health Reinsurance for Hong Kong and Taiwan, effective 1 November 2026.

Cheung will lead the reinsurance firm’s Life & Health operations across both markets, focusing on expanding client partnerships and driving sustainable growth.
