Developers can secure as much as $2.5b during construction and testing.
Aon has launched a new insurance programme for conventional gas power projects as rising demand from data centres, cloud computing and artificial intelligence drives investment in power generation.
The Power Lifecycle Program (PLP) is designed to provide insurance coverage from construction, testing and commissioning through to operations, covering both dedicated power projects for digital infrastructure and grid-connected facilities.
The programme offers up to $2.5b in Erection All Risks and Delay in Start-Up coverage per project during construction, testing and commissioning.
It also provides up to $2.5b in Operational Property Damage and Business Interruption coverage for the early operational period, as well as up to $100m in construction and operational third-party liability, excluding US projects.
Aon said the lifecycle approach is intended to reduce gaps that can arise when insurance is arranged separately at different stages of a project.
It brings construction and operational risks under a coordinated insurance strategy covering project and business interruption risks.
Clients can also opt for risk advisory assessments covering natural catastrophe, climate, cyber, casualty, supply chain and business interruption risks.
The programme is supported by a lead panel of London-based insurers, alongside capacity from local and global markets.
PLP is available to power infrastructure developers, private equity firms funding power projects, contractors managing construction insurance and power infrastructure owners.
The launch follows Aon’s expansion of its Data Centre Lifecycle Insurance Program to $5b in capacity in July 2026, as data centre development drives further investment in power generation capacity.
Joe Peiser, CEO of Risk Capital at Aon, said the programme provides a coordinated insurance solution covering projects from construction through to operations as power assets become more complex.
