Asia-Pacific parametric market eyes 14.8% annual growth

Index-based products currently account for about 35% of the worldwide sector.

Asia-Pacific is projected to record the fastest-growing parametric insurance market with 14.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2035.

The global parametric insurance market is set to expand significantly over the next decade, with its overall value projected to grow from $17.60b in 2025 to $46.08b by 2035.

According to SNS Insider, the sector is expected to expand at a CAGR of 10.1% between 2026 and 2035.

The surge in adoption is largely driven by the rising frequency of severe weather events, including hurricanes, floods, and droughts.

Unlike traditional coverage, parametric insurance relies on trigger-based models that disburse payments based on pre-defined, measurable parameters rather than lengthy loss-assessment processes.

This shift toward faster financial relief is supported by technological advancements, with satellite data, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and big data analytics enhancing the speed and precision of claim triggers.

Within the market, index-based insurance currently holds the largest segment share by insurance type at approximately 35%, whilst weather-based insurance is projected to be the fastest-growing category with a 12.3% CAGR.

Agriculture remains the primary application, accounting for roughly 32% of the market, though the energy sector is expanding the fastest at a 11.9% CAGR.

By deployment, cloud-based models represent the largest share at about 46%, whereas on-premise systems are tracking the highest growth rate at 12.31% CAGR.

Risk mitigation accounts for the largest share of use cases at approximately 42%, whilst catastrophe response is leading in growth momentum with an 11.8% CAGR.

Regionally, North America represents the largest market, holding around 38% of global market share.
